10,000 Miles. 20 Families. 5 Languages. 1 Dream.
The Film: Currently shot in 1080 Full HD, this is the first Autism Documentary to showcase families with their tragedies and triumphs behind the back-drop of a nation that has lost it's self-confidence. Recorded in the first languages of it's citizens from the Atlantic to the Pacific, it ties the spirit of the families that fight long odds on a daily basis with the heart of their communities and its people. The result is an uplifting and poignant tale about the growth of autism in America, the everyday heroes we never see, and the nation that can find it's way by their example.
The Families: Currently, approximately 20 families, speaking five first languages, are scheduled to appear in the documentary.
The Team: At first a short autism YouTube video, the idea of canvassing the nation talking to everyday families grew to a full documentary as the Tommy Foundation's founders helped more families who were either first generation Americans and immigrant families with communication barriers and health disparities or families with long established roots having challenges fighting within the systems they knew so well. As a Hispanic and first generation American, Sugey Cruz-Everts decided to begin cataloging her journey, and asked her husband Richard, a video editor and FX specialist, to formulate a film version of the stories.
Within 2 months, a film, music and production crew of five came together to start the production of the film.
